On 9'th january 2007, Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone at the Macworld convention. It was the beggining of a new era, a smartphone era. When Iphone first launched it was something very different, a phone on that era is just a mere means of communication. Something that only connecting people in distance. We dont take a picture with it, we dont record video with it, Gosh we don’t even use our phone for the calculator. Through the years Phones begins to evolve, it becomes what people calls nowdays “Smartphones”. It was unthinkable how our phone evolves, from something that we only use for 3 to 5 Minutes a day only to communicate with our loved ones are now wasting our time for almost half a day. Something that wasn’t a basic need back then is now a must have, a teenager that doesnt have a phone is almost impposible to find.

Thanks to technology it is way easier to connect with each other, it brings distant people closer. For example, i was born in Indonesia to a beautifull family but at the age of 18 i had to move to Germany. It wasn’t easy living apart from someone who you know from the day you were born, but thanks to WhatsApp i can see my parents faces via Video Calls and I can’t even imagine living in the 80's or 90’s that everytime i misses my family i have to write them a letter, and wait for those letter to be sent and arrive, it will drive me nuts. Ugh, I can’t even wait for my Amazon delivery for more than 3 days, and i would constantly checking the Shipment Tracking. But thats also thanks to modern technology, people demanding things to be instant, everything must be done quickly. We are now being spoiled by these modern technology, it made our live much more easier in wich point i find it shouldn’t be that easy. Do you ever think that people in the 80’s think that in the future you can order food and they will bring it to your front door in less than 45 Minutes? or in some countries you can order people to come to your house and clean your house for you.
Theres always a but…
Before i was moving to the land of many Beers, i was living in Singapore for almost half a year. My Grandmother was sick, she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer so me and my mom have to accompany her trough her treatment there in SGU, but we are here not to talk about that. Singapore is a developed country and way more modern in comparison with the country that i was born in. Living there is different, very different, because of the modern technology everything is within reach there, Just one click away. But what schock me the most is when i was using public transportation, inside was nothing but silent , everybody was busy with their own Smartphones and minding their own bussines. At first i loved it, because i dont want strangers to talk to me in public, expecially in public transport and i would rather play with my own Smartphones too. Later that day i was feeling hungry after waiting hours after hours for my Grandma’s Chemotherapy, so i was on my way to the Hospital Canteen . It’s the same situation like on the Public Transport, Just people there sitting in their table with their food but with their phone on the left hand and Eating utensils on the right hand. And again for me it’s almost like heaven, no one will bother me when eating i can use my phone while at it, looking at YouTube videos or just watching my friends Instagram stories. It was so still and only a few people talk to each other, and for me as a teenager that was all i want, disconnected with the real life and living in an alternative reality which we called SOCIAL MEDIA. After a few weeks living there im starting to feel hollow, and coming to my sense how sad it is. How a modern technology that supposed to bring people closer together is now tearing people a part, I have seen alot of couples in Restaurant sitting together without saying a single word except when they are Ordering.
These technology even creates a new Reality but not a good one. For example: Instagram, a place where people doing everything just to have a LIKES or FOLLOWERS. “Fake it till you make it!” should be their slogan, these Alternative reality is all but lies upon lies. The worst part of it we want to belive in these lies and we want more and more of it. so does Facebook and twitter, it might have begin on a sigle lie and end withe embarrasing a country to the whole world just like what we see in the US where those people who believe in the lies that MR.T**** Tweeted, that resulted the storming of US Capitols. That is just one example there is more of it just like Fake news, nowadays we dont even know what or who to trust.
